Russell's Viper venom can be used in the determination of factor deficiency and in the dilute Russell’s Viper Venom Time (DRVVT) for the diagnosis of the lupus anticoagulant.

• ECTT330 - Echis Clotting Time Test (ECTT) - 10 x 2 mL

For use in the detection of Vitamin K deficiency and the monitoring of direct thrombin inhibitors. Echis Carinatus venom, in the absence of phospholipid and calcium is a direct activator of prothrombin. When used in conjunction with Taipan (Oxyuranus scutellatus) Snake Venom Time (TSVT) it can be a useful confirmatory test in the diagnosis of lupus anticoagulants (LAs).

• TAVX320 - Taipan Venom Reagent (Taipan Snake Venom Time (TSVT)) - 10 x 2.0 mL

In the presence of both phospholipid and calcium ions, venom from the Taipan snake (Oxyuranus scutellatus) can be effectively used as direct activator of prothrombin in the absence of factors V, VII and X. These unique properties make Taipan venom particularly useful in the detection of LAs, especially when patients are receiving oral anticoagulant therapy.

Extensive international studies using our TSVT reagent have demonstrated its effectiveness in indentifying potentially positive patients that were seemingly undetectable using the established APTT and Dilute Russell's Viper Venom Time (dRVVT) tests. This has reinforced its position as a valuable tool in LA screening.

We provide two pack inserts with TAVX320. One provides a detailed guide on using the Taipan Venom as a stand alone reagent to perform a TSVT. The other outlines its use in combination with our Echis reagent. This combination can be particularly useful when a suspected lupus positive sample is encountered due to the Echis reagents insensitivity to phospholipid and calcium ions.

Please note that both a source of phosphilipid (BAPS040) and Imidazole Buffer (IMBX600) are required in addition to the venom reagents. To reduce wastage, we do not currently supply all the components together in a kit.
